Lopez Designs 07-08 snowboards for Technine
For: May 9th, 2007 Salt Lake City, Utah
Technine snowboards ( www.technine.com ) has started the 07-08 production of the men and women snowboards designed by Steven Lopez. The snowboards will be marketed to the more advanced riders and will only be available through specialty retail stores across North America and abroad.
Lopez was eager to work on these projects and stated, "This was the first time I could apply my fashion experience to these boards. I’m excited to hear what the snowboard community thinks of them."
His first assignment was priority: Stay fashion conscious and develop a board for the aggressive female rider. What came out was the snowboard titled, "Suerte" (translated: lucky). Ethan Fortier was the man behind the push to get Steven started. Fortier remarked, "We knew (Lopez) had a lot of experience designing for girls clothing. With his style and experience we felt confident that we were making a good choice."
Lopez explained why it worked for him, "what’s incredible about this years production is that the women’s board goes against the grain of marketing towards female riders. There are lots of twists on simple ideas". One look of the graphics will tell you that any lady who can relate to this board will most likely have a piece of shadow in her heart. When asked about the subdued dark ideas for the women’s board Lopez replied, "I think a lot of ladies out there are tired of the color pink and don’t really care for hibiscus flowers. Some where down the line the marketing department forgot that there are ladies out there that don’t wear rose-colored glasses."
Fortier was so impressed with the first project that the company commissioned a limited edition design for the men’s sector. "Everyone was stoked on it and the team riders wished that it was tailored for the (men)", Fortier said. Lopez wish he could of designed the same thing for the men but he knew he had to have a different angle on it all together. Lopez explained, "I couldn’t reinvent another piece like the women’s board because there should only be one of that nature. But I did keep the feeling gritty with a more concrete feeling- which I think Technine represents."
