Spy Optic goggles designed by Lopez- to be unveiled at SIA
For: January 23th-26th, 2006 Las Vegas, NV.
Steve Lopez partnered with Spy Optic and world class snowboarder, Marc Frank Montoya to design the 2006 signature model. The new model will be unveiled at the Snowsports Industries America (SIA) show at the Mandalay Bay convention center.
SIA is a future-focused group with the industry's interests in mind. They introduce new and familiar brands to the next generation and increase participation in snow sports globally.
SPY ( www.spyoptic.com ) is no beginner in the global market. They are distributed in more than 4,500 retail outlets in North America, and in 38 countries worldwide. The optical company invests heavily in research and development and regularly develops technical product with action sports' best athletes. The company also prides itself as the ultimate free-spirited company, mixing assorted eclectic organic and technological elements of design with action sports, pop culture and art.
Marc Frank Montoya- one of SPY’s top sponsored rider was eager to have Lopez work on his signature model. “When they asked what I wanted for my goggle band design. I gave them Steve’s info and told them to call him! He always knows what to do. I barely give a general direction, and boom!” Snow and skate segment manager Chris Saydah talked with Lopez on several occasions priming him for this project. All parties were interested in doing something new. Lopez mentioned,” Saydah talked about the limits of production but we knew there was a way to stretch those boundaries. After a couple of sketches we all felt we were in new territory”.
Saydah was impressed with the finished design. When asked about the efforts of Lopez-Saydah responded, “Having Frustr8 (Lopez) involved with SpyOptic and our industry has proven a great success. What a talent". Indeed, Lopez was happy to make this happen. When asked about the design concept- he responded, “I found Antonio Goudys’ cathedrals as an inspiration for this project. It helped me conceive of a design with righteous flair, a rustic appeal and heavy style. Snowboarding is all about style”.
The Product will be in stores, fall 2006.
